Marc Bergevin’s name was speculated quickly, and hey, you never know. I suspect that got out there because some people believe Aquilini likes the former Habs GM.
Personally, just from a mental health perspective, I wouldn’t advise jumping that quickly from 10 years in Montreal in that demanding market to dropping into another demanding market in Vancouver.
I remember when John Tortorella went straight from being fired by the Rangers in May 2013 to taking over behind the bench in Vancouver that June and it worried me that he hadn’t taken time to de-compress between gigs. And I think that proved correct.
For Bergevin right now, I would argue taking the rest of the season off before his next gig would seem to make the most sense. But there’s no question if the Canucks called, he would at the very least listen.
